This is a real residential stucco repair project completed by ELN Remodeling in North San Diego County. The home had widespread cracking and failing stucco sections that required full demo, proper lath installation, and a three-coat stucco system to restore the exterior. Our goal was a seamless texture match with the original finish.

This residential stucco repair project involved replacing damaged stucco around newly installed windows. Our team completed the full process including demolition, lathe installation, scratch coat, brown coat with foam trim, color coat, and fog coat application to achieve a flawless, seamless finish.

Step 1 of 7

Demolition Complete

The existing damaged stucco is carefully removed around the new window installations. This exposes the underlying structure and allows us to assess any additional repairs needed before starting the new stucco application.

Lathe Installation

Metal lathe (wire mesh) and weather barrier are securely attached to the wall surface. This creates a strong foundation for the stucco system and ensures proper adhesion of the plaster coats.

Scratch Coat Application

The first coat of stucco is applied over the lathe. This scratch coat is scored with horizontal lines to create a rough surface that helps the next layer adhere properly.

Brown Coat & Foam Trim Complete

The brown coat is applied to build up thickness and create a level surface. Decorative foam trim is installed around the windows, adding architectural detail and creating clean lines around window openings.

Color Coat Application

The finish color coat is applied with the matching texture and color. This layer provides weather protection and the final appearance that blends with the existing stucco.

Fog Coat Drying

A fog coat (thin cement and color mixture) is spray-applied to blend the new stucco with the existing finish. This technique ensures a seamless color match across the entire wall.

Final Completion
